Staff update: Head of Services

We are delighted to announce that Fiona, our Play Pedagogy Lead is stepping into the role of Head of Services at Play Scotland starting this August.

Fiona joined Play Scotland in 2022 as Project Co-ordinator for the Play Pedagogy Award and became our Play Pedagogy Lead in 2025. During that time, she has played a central role in developing and expanding the Award, working closely with Education Scotland and supporting schools, educators and local authorities across Scotland to embed play pedagogy within educational settings.

Alongside leading the Award, Fiona has helped to strengthen Play Scotland’s professional learning, resource development, qualifications and policy work. She co-wrote the SQA PDA Level 8 qualification in Pedagogy of Play, contributes to national work around play sufficiency, place standards and children’s rights, and regularly represents Play Scotland at national and international events.

In her new role, Fiona will lead the continued development and delivery of Play Scotland’s services, supporting colleagues, strengthening relationships with organisations across Scotland and helping to extend the reach and impact of our work, while keeping children’s right to play at the heart of everything we do.

Congratulations Fiona, we can’t wait to see you thrive in helping lead Play Scotland! 🎈
