April 2008 - 'PLAY IN SCOTLAND' SURVEY
Play Scotland has asked the Scottish Poverty Information Unit (SPIU) to canvass opinion from a wide range of stakeholders to inform understanding of what must be done to develop play in Scotland. Specifically, we intend to use the survey results in two main ways. First, the findings will be used to inform the work of our Scottish Play Commission (http://www.playscotland.org/whatwedo_demobestpractice.html). Second, the findings will build on evidence from focus group research to strengthen a Play Scotland funding application to Big Lottery in May 2008. We will make a PDF copy of the SPIU report available on this website in June 2008.
We would be grateful if you would complete the survey. You may already have received a copy of this survey by mail. If you have not received a copy of the survey, please e-mail j.mckendrick@gcal.ac.uk to request an electronic version of the survey.
The survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. Completed surveys should be returned to SPIU by Wednesday April 30th.

- OCTOBER 2007
SCOTLAND IS creating an "anti-children culture" by failing to provide enough play areas and outdoor facilities for youngsters.
A Play Scotland report on provision for children found that only 38% of local authorities have a policy or strategy on play, and only 25% offered children free access to leisure centres. The study also revealed a lack of playgrounds in urban areas, where the number of children per playground often exceeds the national average of 255.
