Playing Outside
Play, nature and services for young children
Children in Europe Conference
Balbirnie House Hotel, Markinch, Fife
16 September 2010
Opportunities for outdoor play and activities can contribute hugely to children's learning and creativity, social relationships and physical well-being. Nature has been described as ‘the best environment for a child's play' enabling children to explore their ‘possibility' worlds. Research has shown that children who play outside are more curious and physically healthier - and that the outdoor environment offers important opportunities for developing relationships as well as encouraging a sense of independence and building self-esteem.
This special conference explores some of the issues raised by Children in Europe's issue ‘Playing Outside" which examines the use of outdoor space in services for children aged 0-10 years.
